In Yoga, a proper way of breathing is taught. This helps the 'Kundalini power' to rise. The normal breathing method and then breathing in at the right side of the nose and breathing out of the left side. Vice-versa and controlling the breath as much as possible and releasing it at a slow pace are part of such a procedure.
You can also practice saying 'OM' in your mind during normal breathing. It is a sort of meditation too. It will make changes at its own course to upgrade you spiritually. The more you learn how to control your breath and shorten the length of breath coming out will help prolong your life. In-order to avoid death before accomplishing their mission, many saints prolonged their life by this method.
